The ELLSO Summer School week

Every year we are lucky enough to be able to secure the services of a wonderful team of String Tutors to guide us through our week.  All are gifted players in their own right, with busy careers as international soloists, as members of world class orchestras or teaching in the very best music establishements in the country.

Our Tutors for 2023

The week will begin with Sunday lunch on 4th August and ends after breakfast on Saturday 10th August.

Each day will offer a packed timetable of full orchestra and sectional sessions, technique classes and different string ensembles to choose from eg groups playing baroque, classical, romatic or contemporary music.

You will be able to take part in other optional activities such as joining a chamber group, creating something special in the art room, attending a talk, a singing group or a gentle exercise class, going for a walk or a swim.

Some individual practice rooms will be available for participants to use. All the music for the week will be circulated 2-3 weeks before the course, and we ask players to print their own parts and bring them along.

During  the evenings most people like to gather in the bar and socialise or enjoy some live music-making; there will be a film night in the theatre and a Tutor Concert in the School Memorial Hall.

On the last day there will be a "playthrough" when everyone can demonstrate what they have learned and see what others have been working on.

A good time is invariably had by all!
