Southwark Sinfonia is a professional community orchestra, a not-for-profit organisation, founded in 2009 and based at the Norwegian Seaman Church in the first 5 years. It is made up by a group of professional musicians and instrumental tutors from across London's East and South Eastern boroughs. We give a concert each school term, focus on providing top quality classical performances to the whole families, hence our concert are never too long and always on a Sunday late afternoon.
A Southwark Sinfonia concert usually includes an open rehearsal where the audience is led through a concise guide of the music being perform. Children are then invited to conduct the orchestra. The full performance concludes the concert after a short interval where musicians and audience mingle over Norwegian's famous waffles.
